Theatre Specs of the Brown Grand Theatre

  • Seating:  The Brown Grand is a 628 seat theatre with 2 balconies and 8 box seats..The main floor is handicap accessible. (300 on main floor with 16 of those seats in the 4 box seats) (217 with 16 seats in the 4 side balcony box seats) (111 in 2nd balcony)
  • Stage Size: The stage is 32 feet wide and 24 feet deep  to the black traveler curtain.It is 30 feet to back wall. There is a 50 foot tall fly space above the stage (on a non-counterweighted hemp rope pulley system.) Wing space is limited; (Stage Right: 8 feet wide; Stage Left: 12 feet wide) Apron  in front of grand drape is narrow (less than 4 feet with slanted area where foot lights used to be). A large A frame ladder is stored back stage which takes up a lot of space.
  • Curtains: Grand Napoleon Curtain-fire curtain at proscenium; Green Grand drape with SR side manual pull; Rose Traveler curtain mid stage with manual SR pull; Black traveler curtain with SR manual pull; several sets of black legs set at 7 feet, 10 feet, 16 feet and 20 feet from the front of stage.
  • Loading in: there are double doors which are 7.5 feet wide and 7.5 feet tall. These open out to a set of 5 steps which come down to the theatre from the alley. There is a standard 32 inch door on the stage left side entrance from the parking lot. The parking lot is level and will accommodate a large semi or bus for unloading. Parking for the show is in a lot about a block away.
  •  Dressing space:  two main floor dressing rooms suitable for 2-4 people each. There are 3 larger dressing rooms on the second floor backstage.(6-8 people each) Additional dressing space may be set up in the basement. There are  2 bathrooms and a small kitchen behind the stage area.
  • Sound: The Grand is known for its phenomenal acoustics .We do have a sound system which consists of a Peavey 2310 12 channel mixer with 8 corded microphones & 1 wireless microphones(laveler or hand held). There is a snake with 8 inputs on stage. We have two onstage monitors which are Peavey PR 15 and two speakers which project to the house.  Sound & light is controlled from the back of the house.
  • Lights: ETC Express 48/96 Lighting Control Console with Monitor(new 10-07). We currently only run 24 instruments from this console.(8 Source 4 ellipsoidals from front of house & 16 pars and floods above the stage on three electrics.)
  • Piano: Mason-Hamlin Grand Piano  
  • Orchestra Pit: small in front of & below the stage- seats 8-12
General renting options for a 5 hour block of time. This also includes limited publicity by posting on our website, news releases, and local non-charging outlets for public performances
  • $175 OR 10% of box office (whichever is greater) for "non-profit" organizations (official 501.c3 organizations)(includes light, sound, parking & 1 staff person) for 5 continuous hours
  • $175 PLUS 10% of gate for "profit" organizations and individuals (includes light, sound, parking & 1 staff person) for 5 continuous hours
  • $250 for sponsored membership tickets
  • Negotiated price for professional concert presentations depending on number of performances,length of set up/take down, advance ticket sales options, personnel required, etc.

Special Event Rental

  • Wedding Rental: $850-8 hour block on one day for pictures/wedding; You also have a 2 hour block for rehearsal time night before; decorating time on day before if during normal business hours(9-5); additional hours @ $25 per hour; Some restrictions apply regarding decorating;if reception is held on stage, food must be restricted to stage area; no alcohol allowed.     Rehearsal/Meeting Times

    Most of the year, appointments may be made during our posted office hours at no charge to rehearse, set stage or strike, if there are no other scheduling conflicts. 

    Group Meetings

    We also offer the Brown Grand as a meeting space during posted office hours if it is not already in use. There are numerous committee meetings, club/organization meetings, workshops, retreats, seminars, receptions, etc., which are not included in the yearly rental use as a performing arts center. These events may not be listed on the events calendar.

    Who Uses the Grand?

    The Brown Grand Theatre serves as a tourist attraction and community/performing arts center for North Central Kansas. The theatre is rented by churches, Teens for Christ, Brown Grand Players, Cloud County Community College, the school district, county 4-H style revue, dance recitals, piano recitals, quilt shows, Girl Scout programs, the Community Concert Association, the Chamber of Commerce, businesses and by individuals hosting privately catered suppers or parties (non-alcoholic).
